When you look at your favorite painting by your favorite artist there is something there that is not in any other work, not in any other painting, and most of the time no other artist has done what your favorite artist has.   This great artist you love might be one of the most famous people in the world, or might be one that is known to only a few who have recently discovered for themselves this amazing talent yet to be proclaimed to all the world.

When you look at a canvas that was created by a master what do you see?  What do you think about?  How does it make you feel?  Why is this painting in particular, and this artist, the one which makes you return to it over and over?  Do you look at the brush strokes, the tones, the transformation of one color smoothly into the other as the flat shape on the canvas takes life and depth, and reflects light:  the roses breath, the vase is heavy, the deep white light is endless in mindful or mindless thoughtfulness.

What did the artist think when he created life out of mind?  What did he feel as the brush held with a surgeon’s precision touched the project?  What was his hope for the world around him? And more importantly:  what was his hope for this painting which is his best and sometimes only communication with the world around him?  The artist does not paint for himself.  He paints for you and for eternity.  When he fails to express his thoughts and feelings the artists, tormented with or inspired by his emotions, searches and tries to develop the style, the technique, the method that tells not only what he sees and feels, but also what he knows and hopes.

Alexander Pogrebinsky is an artist.  He lives a life of an artist.  He always has.  The life experience of being born into an artistic family in post World War II Kiev; the school years in special art classes; and the intense seven year training in the art institute, all set Alexander on a track he would never escape.  Dr. Pogrebinsky became one of the most celebrated, original, and talent artists, meanwhile building a collection which required nearly all of his time and attention.

However, the track laid out for him was traumatically altered as this artist and his young family planned and completed a risky escape by train from the former USSR on New Year’s eve 1990.  The accomplished painter from Ukraine was suddenly an abandoned man in a foreign land without much support.  All the life experiences and hardships of Soviet life and now the frightening unknown of the new American life drove spouting thoughts and emotions deep through the man, his soul, and outlook on life.

Besides his obvious commitment to beauty, perfection, and technique, Alexander also believed in the importance of meaning and philosophy in all his work.  His lifelong interest in world philosophy and spirituality reflected more and more in the works Alexander began developing since the arrival to the States.  Without the need to mention names, other greats have become “great” to the world through a discovery of a visual style unseen before them.  The lighting, the shading, the composition, the subject, the tone, the mood, the feelings, the message, and all the thousands of other factors put together in a way that only this one person could and no one else has before them.  As much, as long, and as many who copy or work in the same style since them, can rarely reach the same effect, unless, a new genius mind perfects the already unreachable level of mastery.

Taking all his capable strength as an experienced artist Alexander Pogrebinsky developed and perfected a style of his own.  This truly unique and original look has not been developed by anyone before and most importantly, no other artists today are using this.  This style and produced visual affect is entirely the creation of Alexander Pogrebinsky.  A new phenomena in the history of art.

What makes up the unprecedented quality and visual affect in all of Pogrebinsky’s work is due to the invention of a special technique.  Alexander applies his own methods not taught in schools, not used by other artists in the past or presently.  This makes his work unique, unlike anything in the world, and most importantly a first in the world.  The subjects of the paintings are usually very simple; the content often minimal;  the detail comes through in the created visual affect as opposed to photographic accuracy.

The portraits stun upon first viewing them in real life, as you can sense the figure in front of you sitting or standing firmly in its position; the skin alive in shape and form and softness of the light.  The restful hands are just about to motion.  You are looking at a portrait, not a photograph, that is what makes the figure alive and real, not flat and still;  it is life created again by a once in a life time master of painting and portraiture.

The still lives are where the philosophy is even more directly apparent.   Returning to the notion of the artist as a communicator, Pogrebinsky wishes to express the sense of beauty and hope of peace that is in fact all around us.  At the very least, he in a way talks to us about a peace we are able to create around us, and should strive for it.

There are no strokes, no seams, no evidence of work, its effortless, its boundless like vision itself along with the limitless mindfulness it inspires suddenly and instantly.  In a way, it is not unexpected that the life of this man created such an artist, but also it is his amazing talent that has created the most unique style of painting never before seen in the art world.
